Rainforest - the 135 mill. years old rainforests, oldest in the world. On the malaysian peninsula, and in Borneo, we find the oldest rainforests in the world. When South America did not exist, these forests where almost exactly as they are today, having escaped climatic and territorial changes which have changed the world dramatically most other places. More than 2000 species of trees and nearly a 100-fold that of plants and mosses, form here a part of the lungs of our planet. Despite of this, also here rapid forestry activities, change the rainforests to oil palm plantations under governmental, partly corrupt, control. These photos are partly from the fantastic National Park at Bako near Kuching (Borneo), partly from the huge Taman Negara, and the misty forests of Cameron Highlands, centrally in Malaysia. I have tried to catch some of the fantastic sculptural forms of these unique trees and the light in their often very dark environment. Total portfolio: 30. |
