Kistefos – The old cellullose-factory. In 1889 a norwegian visionair Anders Sveaas established the Kistefos by the waterfall of the same name, starting to produce wood-fiber for paperproduction. The factory represents a significant and typical phase of norwegian industry history, as Norway is rich on forests and waterways. In 1955 new technology forced the factory to close. It was constructed as an intricate system of wheels and bands running by the power from the waterfall. The years thereafter, up to 1998, nothing happened there, as it just was abandoned. The new generation of the Sveaas-family, now Christen Sveaas saw the immense qualities of the setting and the buildings, restoring them and establishing partly an Arts Museum for Fine arts, partly restoring the factory with the aim of keeping as much as the old atmosphere as possible. In this portfolio, I have tried to capture it with my 4x5-view-camera, and bring it to you. You might even consider to go there. Visit www.kistefos.museum.no. Total portfolio: 12. |
