Dordogne River (France) and its forests.
Dordogne is a very fascinating river in the central-west of France, which
has carved, over millions of years, a 3-400 meter deep canyon in a forested
landscape. The upper, wilder part of the river is now “tamed”, with dams and
hydropower-plants. The surrounding forest has a large variety of trees,
where walnuts and chestnuts are some of them. The microclimate here is not
very different from a tropical rainforest, with humidity from frequent
rainshowers. The sunlight which comes through such a slope, with very high
trees growing as dense as in a true rainforest, gives a special filtered
light, unlike the light you will find in a normal forest. I wanted to catch
this light in these forests. And I wanted to catch a bit of the environment,
e.g. the beautiful waterplants often covering large areas of the river, the
special Dordogne boat, the large flocks of sheep and ---. I hope I can give
you a little bit of the feeling from the upper part of the Dordogne, in the
western Auvergne, before it widens out, and reaches the worldfamous
winefields of Bordeaux.
