"The Forge"-"Smedjan"

Smedjan was founded in 1847, and shortly afterwards it started the development and
production of steam-locomotives. For the World Fair in Paris, in 1878, the occasion for which the Eiffel-Tower was built, they were rewarded with a Silver Medal for locomotive, and consequently received many orders. More than 2400 of these locomotives were built, amongst them 200 for the "Bolshevik"'s in Russia, of which some are reported to have run in Siberia more than 80 years. Later they also produced huge waterturbines here and engines for planes for SAAB and Volvo etc.
When I came to the place, I had a feeling as if the workers were just out for lunch. It was as if I was still hearing the noice of the drilling machines and smelling the oil that was being used to cool them.At the same time there was the awareness that so much has changed in the way we are producing things.Today people are controlling robots with the help of computers, thereby producing the same things that these workers manufactured by hand, using simple and often extremely heavy tools. In this environment I suddenly saw the sculptures that were around me. Machines and tools as if they were formed by an artist like Henry Moore for example. And this was what I wanted to convey to you with my project. I did not move or arrange a single piece, nor did I bring in any extra light. I hope you can share some of my sensations from "Smedjan"
